2005-2006

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons captured their 7th HJHL Championship during the 2005–2006 season, officially reaching the halfway mark in their historic run to 14 league championships. What followed was not just a championship year—but the most dominant season in franchise history.

The Bisons finished 1st overall in the HJHL with a staggering record of 36 wins, 1 loss, and 1 overtime loss, totaling 73 points and an incredible .961 winning percentage—the highest ever achieved by the organization. Offensively, the Bisons were unstoppable, scoring 352 goals, averaging over 9 goals per game, while allowing just 74 goals against, fewer than 2 per game.

The season featured four shutouts, an average of 38 penalty minutes per game, and set multiple franchise records, including most wins, fewest losses, most points, highest goals for, and the longest winning streak in team history at 27 games.

At Provincials, the Bisons continued their excellence, posting a 3–1–1 record and earning their second Provincial Bronze Medal, marking the 5th provincial medal in team history.

This historic season was guided by President Jay Pritchard, General Manager Murray McCourt, Head Coach Mike Hannigan, and assistant coaches Ron Dreger and Stefan Motuz. Hannigan would go on to become one of the most successful coaches in Bisons history, winning five HJHL championships, earning three provincial medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), and capturing a Western Canadian Championship Bronze Medal during his tenure.

The 2005–2006 season stands as the gold standard for the Okotoks Bisons—the best winning percentage, the most dominant record, and one of the greatest teams the organization has ever iced.
