2011-2012

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons captured their 9th HJHL Championship during the 2011–2012 season, marking a powerful return to form and a season that re-established the program’s championship standard.

After the adversity of the previous year, the Bisons responded in emphatic fashion — finishing 1st overall in the HJHLwith an impressive record of 31 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie. With 262 goals for and 130 goals against, the Bisons posted a strong .829 winning percentage, once again asserting themselves as the league’s top contender. Four team shutoutshighlighted a season built on structure, depth, and balance throughout the lineup.

The playoff run delivered the ultimate reward, as the Bisons battled through the postseason to claim their 9th HJHL Championship, reaffirming their place among the league’s elite.

At Provincials, the Bisons came heartbreakingly close to the ultimate prize. Posting a 3–2 record, the team earned the Provincial Silver Medal, a result that stung — not because it fell short, but because this group had all the pieces to go all the way. Sometimes the margin between silver and gold is razor thin.

This championship season was led by President Jay Pritchard, General Manager Jason McFarlane, Head Coach Mike Hannigan, and assistant coaches Jason McFarlane and Rory Hennigan — a leadership group that consistently positioned the Bisons to compete at the highest level.

The 2011 season also welcomed several deserving members into the Bisons Wall of Fame, including players Derek Schlamp and Christian Chivilo, along with longtime team contributors Dr. Lorne Dielissen (Trainer) and Kent Vanwinkle (Equipment Manager and dedicated volunteer).

The 2011–2012 Bisons weren’t just champions — they were a reminder of how close greatness can be, and how high the standard had once again been set heading into the seasons that followed.
