The Carstar Okotoks Bisons captured their 14th HJHL Championship during the 2023–2024 season, delivering one of the most complete and dominant years in program history — and reminding everyone across the country exactly who the Bisons are.
The Bisons finished 1st overall in the HJHL with an outstanding record of 34 wins, 3 losses, and 1 overtime loss, totaling 69 points while scoring 185 goals and allowing just 68 against. The season vaulted the Bisons to the very top, as they were ranked the #1 Junior B team in all of Canada — a reflection of excellence on both sides of the puck and a standard few programs ever reach.
When the playoffs arrived, the Bisons rose once again. They captured their 14th HJHL Championship, defeating the Sylvan Lake Wranglers and completing a back-to-back-to-back championship run — a feat no other team in HJHL history has ever accomplished. Remarkably, the Bisons have now achieved this three separate times in the program’s history.
The championship momentum carried straight into Provincials. Posting a 4–1 record, the Bisons claimed Provincial Gold, securing the right to build the second championship ring in franchise history. Provincial Champions. Nationally ranked #1. Banner raised. Ring earned.
This historic season was guided by President Jason McFarlane, General Managers Ryan Rarick and Asst Manager Josh Colbourne, Head Coach Brad Cobb, assistant coaches Trevor Bueckert, Dr. Cale Granson, Connor McCarroll and Team Trainer Dr. Lorne Dielissen — a leadership group that upheld the standard and delivered when it mattered most.
Winning one championship is hard.
Many programs chase it for decades and never experience it even once.
The Okotoks Bisons have done it 14 times.
This isn’t luck. It isn’t timing. And it isn’t coincidence.
It’s culture. It’s expectation. It’s a program built to last.
As the Bisons continue to chase the next banner, one thing remains clear — it’s not a question of if this program rises again… it’s only a matter of time before it’s back on top.
